Theme 2 Reflection

Well I turned 40 today, or as a good friend said, it's the 20th anniversary of my 20th birthday.

Rather than post my top 40 reflections on theme 2, I decided to test out a web maker for this blog post. Click on the following mindmup for my big take-aways from this theme.

In some parts of the country, the 3rd Monday of February is known as Family Day. In Manitoba, we celebrate the life and legacy of Louis Riel. This can be a challenging theme for French Immersion TL's. Finding appropriate French reference sources for a topic that is unique to Manitoba requires definite knowledge of the curriculum and an understanding of the needs of the students and teachers.

Resource-based teaching is successful when students are engaged in a meaningful use of a wide-range of resources. I created this Padlet as a way to showcase the online resources offered by the division.

How will I know that the suggested resources were effective? In addition to simply asking teachers and students for feedback, sending out a quick Google forms survey can also be useful. "Collaborative collection development and evaluation ensures that resources, in a variety of formats, are available to meet curricular objectives." (Asselin, p. 24)

Resource-based teaching comes with its challenges, but as we say here in Manitoba, got to "keep it Riel"!

  1. Keep it Riel. I love this.
I also really like the straightforward mindmap you made about being proactive with feedback and resource management. A visual like this would certainly be helpful in terms of focusing a TL's energy in the right places to maximize teacher and student voice.

  2. This visual perfectly captures YOUR key takeaways and also helps me conceptualize important points to consider in my own practice. In particular, the questions you ask yourself when thinking about organization and access are so helpful to keep in mind while considering my space. Cheers!

  3. Using Padlet and MindMup are really neat ways to showcase your learning! I am always so interested to see how people in this program adapt to their curriculum in other provinces. Happy 40th!
